Training Goals
The federal employment environment is changing as it responds
to advances in technology, increased emphasis on results,
and rising expectations of service. The federal employee
is also changing to meet these demands. Federal employees
are looking for more opportunities for professional development,
becoming more diverse, and expecting more flexibility and
support in the workplace. Discussions throughout federal
agencies indicate an awareness of the supreme value of human
capital and the challenges associated with competency-building
and the need to develop the capacity and expertise of the
current workforce.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROFESSIONAL TRAINERS
FEW has limited funds for honorariums, trainer travel,
and other expenses. Traditionally, federal employees selected
to present training have been supported financially by the
employing agency at no cost to FEW. Private trainers have
viewed the conference as an excellent marketing forum and
have negotiated in-kind services such as complimentary conference
registration, program book advertising, website links, exhibit
booths, opportunity to sell books at bookstore and/or conference
kit inserts. Additionally, Federally Employed Women established
the FEW Foundation for Education and Training, a 501(c) 3
charitable arm in 2004. The Foundation works hand-in-hand
with FEW’s National Training Program Committee. You
may want to consider sponsoring a workshop as a tax deductible
donation. Trainers receive maximum exposure through FEW’s
National Training Program, FEW’s website at www.fewntp.org
and the 11,000 registration packages that are distributed
approximately five months prior to the conference.
Additionally, conference kits, distributed to participants,
trainers, and VIPs, include a copy of the program book. The
program book lists all trainers and contact information and
includes workshop descriptions.
Trainers who market their services to the federal sector
have the added advantage of showcasing their training to
more than 1,600 federal employees, including EEO Specialists,
Personnel Management Specialists, Managers and Supervisors,
Training Officers, and others. When the opportunity to present
training is combined with participation in our trade show
and Education/Career Fair, the training contractors’ contact
time with these and other participants who are in positions
to secure their services for the federal workplace is multiplied.
